In Kukuo, Ghana, seasonal water shortages—especially during harmattan—have driven community members to walk long distances to access water. To address this, the community initiated a dam expansion project aimed at year-round water storage and supply, benefiting the entire population of 987 residents. The expanded dam will be deepened and widened to store sufficient water, supporting both domestic needs and agricultural activities, allowing 40 farmers to cultivate even in the dry season. The project saw strong local involvement, with financial contributions and active participation from residents, while a project committee engaged external funders to cover additional costs. This project not only secures essential water resources but also fosters community ownership and resilience.
CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: engaging youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty. We recruit and train motivated volunteers to live and work in rural, under-resourced areas in their own countries. They collaborate with the community to design and implement small-scale projects that address their top priorities and, by doing so, gain the skills and experience that lay the foundation for personal and professional success.
CorpsAfrica trusts youth and communities to help each other.
