Project Demo Day in Malawi

​On April 22nd 2023, after a rigorous selection process, four CorpsAfrica/Malawi Volunteers presented projects to  donors and invited guests. Project Demo Day is a fundraising initiative that seeks to raise funds for community-led projects identified by host communities in collaboration with Volunteers. 

Under-5 Clinic Shelter Project

Mbingwani Community in Majete 1 
Total Cost: $4,818.70
Community Contribution: $2,826

The Mbingwani community in Majete 1 are on a mission to construct an Under-5 clinic in their community. Currently, the community members uses a makeshift shade for immunization, growth monitoring, health education, and family planning services. During the rainy season there is an increase in malnutrition cases but the community lacks proper access to an adequate facility.

​Timber Deck Bridge Project

Total Cost: $4,846 ​

 Nganawe Chiwona and her community in Rumphi are planning on constructing a 7-meter timber deck bridge over the Mkombezi river. The bridge will help connect 2 communities and ease access to health and education services. The bridge will also aid the 1802 people in accessing markets and farmlands. The project Team together with Kanyerere VDC will set up a fund to cover the costs of future maintenance and repairs to ensure the bridge’s longevity.

Solar-powered Irrigation Project

Mbingwani Community in Majete 1

Amy Ndao Gueye is a Senegalese Exchange Volunteer serving in Dowa. She is working with a group called Women is Palm Tree from Dzaleka Refugee Camp to implement a Solar powered irrigation system. The project seeks to install a submersible pump to aid irrigation at the group’s farm. Installation of a solar pumping system which will aid watering of crops in the women's gardens, reduce the average time which the women spend in watering the
garden by 2 hours and increase the amount of vegetables harvested.

Community-based Child Care Centre Project

Mwalala Village in Chitipa
Total Cost: $4,740
Community Contribution: $2,073
​

Simeon Kalua and his community in Chitipa are on a mission to construct a modern Community-based Child Care Centre. Currently the community has no learning structure and children are taught at a caregiver’s house. The project will also ensure that the caregivers are trained and learning materials are available at the school. The project will increase enrollment and attendance in pre-primary education; it will aid children's social, emotional, cognitive and moral development and facilitate their transition to primary school.
