Kalipha Jabbi holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education and Higher Teachers’ Certificate from the University of the Gambia and the Gambia College School of Education, respectively. He has over a decade of professional experience as an educationist, social worker, and free lance journalist. Starting his career as a classroom teacher, Kalipha rose through the ranks to become Head of English Language Department for Njawara Upper and Senior Secondary School, Teacher Coordinator for various school-led events and focal person for a Peace Corps Camp Glow program at the school level. In 2022, he joined the US Embassy Peace Corps as a Language and Culture Facilitator, where he taught and guided different cohorts of Peace Corps Volunteers local languages and culture. Besides his works as a teacher and a local language instructor, Kalipha has been into freelance journalism since 2015. He has been a guest writer for numerous national newspapers before joining a youth led online newspaper, The Gambia Torch, as the editor in chief. Kalipha is widely regarded as one of the finest young writers in the country, and in 2021, he won the prestigious award of the University of the Gambia Students’ Union Most Prolific Writer of the Year. He made a name for himself as a sought-after book reviewer, editor, and proofreader of numerous Gambian books. Jabbi has a distinct record as a former student leader and an executive member for several youth organizations in the country. Kalipha has so much passion for community work and activism. He has been at the forefront of advocating for better education for rural communities, through his role as the Vice Chairperson of the Gambia Teachers’ Union Young Teachers Platform and during his time as the President of the Education Students’ Association. He is a young community leader as he serves in various capacities at his Village Development Committee. He is currently the IPRO for the local football committee and the Secretary General for the Village Development Committee.
