Biography

Chimwemwe Gawa is currently serving as the Communications Officer for CorpsAfrica/Malawi, where he leads the organization’s communication efforts to amplify the voices of Volunteers and communities across Malawi. With a strong background in Participatory Rural Communication, Chimwemwe specializes in crafting compelling narratives that highlight grassroots development, youth and women empowerment, and the transformative power of volunteerism.
Over the past seven years, Chimwemwe has built a robust career in communications, community development, social work, and strategic communications. He has worked with diverse organizations, including United Nations Volunteers Malawi, the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE), and held positions within the Government of Malawi, contributing to both the Ministry of Culture, Civic Education and Community Development and the Ministry of Information. His work has consistently aligned with advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas of reduced inequalities, poverty reduction, quality education, and gender equality. He has contributed to impactful programming through mass communication, community mobilisation and education, and behaviour change communication
Prior to joining CorpsAfrica, Chimwemwe worked with The Sparkle Foundation Malawi as Marketing and Communications Officer, where he was instrumental in developing communication strategies that blended social media campaigns, storytelling, and fundraising initiatives. He also played a key role in community empowerment projects focused on women and youth, working directly with Village Savings and Loans (VSL) groups to support economic independence and local development.

Chimwemwe’s expertise spans across; Strategic communications, Social media management, including content creation, platform management, analytics, and fundraising, Videography for development, documenting success and impact stories, Participatory rural communication appraisal, and Project management. With a passion for storytelling and a commitment to inclusive development, Chimwemwe uses media as a tool to drive visibility, advocacy, and sustainable change. He continues to be a strong advocate for volunteerism as a catalyst for community transformation in Malawi and beyond
