Brian Kihara

Biography

Brian Kihara is a passionate community development practitioner with a Bachelor’s degree in Community Nutrition from Maseno University. His career in service began with the Kenya Red Cross, where he gained his first experience in humanitarian work. As a volunteer, he supported life-saving initiatives, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he helped organize and facilitate awareness campaigns and demonstrated proper hand-washing techniques as a preventive measure.

Driven by his commitment to volunteering, Brian joined CorpsAfrica/Kenya, serving for one year in Tharaka Nithi County. There, he worked closely with women’s groups and small-scale farmers, empowering them through small scale, high-impact community-led projects. One of his notable achievements was facilitating the establishment of a cereal aggregation center, which now serves over 200 small-scale farmers by improving market access and reducing exploitation by middlemen.

Seeking to extend his impact beyond his home country and gain international exposure, Brian joined CorpsAfrica/Malawi, where he currently serves in rural underserved communities. His focus is on shifting community mindsets toward appreciating and leveraging available resources to meet their needs. He is particularly passionate about engaging and empowering youth.

Looking ahead, Brian aspires to contribute to the transformation of agrifood systems into models that empower farmers, conserve soil health and the environment, and ensure the production of safe, nutritious food for all.

His purpose is to restore hope, inspire resilience, and build brighter futures with the communities he serves.
