Phindokuhle Phakathi, from Nquthu in KwaZulu-Natal, is a multi-talented individual with a deep interest in cultural traditions, people, and nature. He is a Registered Nurse with a degree in Nursing Sciences, a trained Agroecology demonstrator and advocate, and a traditional craftsman. Phindo has worked in both the public and NGO sectors, driven by a passion for helping others. He has experience working in trauma units and as an Outreach Team Leader at a clinic. In Agroecology, Phindo has supported small-scale farmers in navigating legal frameworks and transitioning to sustainable farming practices. He is also involved in national advocacy efforts. As a farmer, he focuses on preserving indigenous crops for their climate resilience and nutritional value. Despite facing discouragement from others, Phindo has kept his traditional weaving and pottery skills alive, believing in the importance of preserving these skills for future generations. “We need to preserve these skills for the next generation; there shouldn’t be a gap,” he says. Phindo is also passionate about learning new languages and is a wild food enthusiast, often picking weeds for snacks or meals. He is excited to share his skills and learn from others as he continues his journey of personal and community growth.
