The Kenteri Kebele community in Tenku Village successfully completed the construction of a spring water storage system to address the challenges of unsafe water access. Previously, 220 households relied on contaminated sources, which increased the risk of waterborne diseases and strained community well-being.
The project, identified and prioritized by the community, involved constructing a durable spring water storage system that now provides clean drinking water to 225 households and indirectly benefits 852 individuals in surrounding areas. Completed in six weeks at a cost of 179,171.7 ETB—with 25% of the resources contributed by the community through labor and materials—the initiative has improved hygiene, reduced health risks, and enhanced quality of life. Supported by training on system maintenance and a monitoring plan, the project ensures long-term sustainability, resilience, and collective ownership.
