The Somoddo Kebele community in Oromia successfully completed the construction of a four-unit latrine block at Sareddo Primary School to address critical sanitation challenges. Previously, inadequate facilities compromised students’ health, dignity, and attendance—especially for girls. Poor sanitation not only increased health risks but also contributed to absenteeism and reduced participation in education.
The project, identified and prioritized by the community, involved building a durable four-unit latrine block that now serves 287 female students, while indirectly benefiting 288 households and 826 individuals in the surrounding area. With a total budget of 385,895 ETB, funded through community contributions and support from CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia, the four-month initiative has created a healthier, more inclusive, and supportive school environment.
This project was facilitated by Belaynesh Bekele in partnership with the Somoddo Kebele community, local authorities, and CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia.
