Description

The Nyagbo Odumase community in the Afadzato South District of Ghana’s Volta Region faced persistent water challenges. The only existing borehole was overused, frequently damaged, and posed safety risks due to its location near a busy road.

To address this, a new mechanized borehole was drilled, connected to an existing reservoir, and extended through pipes to multiple fetching points across the community. This intervention now provides a reliable and safe source of clean water for over 150 households.

The project was designed through inclusive community engagements and mapping exercises to ensure it met the people’s priority needs. With a total budget of GH₵41,650, the community contributed 32% (GH₵13,260), while CorpsAfrica supported 68% (GH₵28,420) — reflecting strong local ownership.

Beyond improved water access, the project creates economic and social impact. Water sales generate income for community development, while 8 trained members now manage and maintain the borehole to guarantee sustainability.

The mechanized borehole has reduced accident risks, alleviated pressure on the old system, improved health, and set the foundation for future development initiatives in Nyagbo Odumase.
