WHY BE A VOLUNTEER

Having followed CorpsAfrica/Kenya for a while on social media, I was deeply impressed by their impactful work in empowering communities and driving development through the active participation of youth. Their mission resonated strongly with me, as I have always believed in the power of service and the mantra of servant leadership.

I vividly remember applying for the second cohort, but I wasn’t successful. Although I felt disheartened at the time, I refused to give up. The desire to give back to society and be part of a movement that prioritizes sustainable community development fueled my persistence. I knew that one day, I would be part of this transformative team, contributing to solutions that address real societal challenges.

When I finally got the opportunity to join CorpsAfrica, it felt like a dream come true. Serving in Tharaka-Nithi has been both a humbling and rewarding experience. Each day, I am reminded of the importance of listening to communities, understanding their unique needs, and co-creating sustainable solutions with them. It’s not just about the change I’m contributing to but also about how much I’m growing—gaining new skills, embracing diverse perspectives, and building lasting relationships.

My decision to Volunteer was driven by several factors:

  • A strong sense of responsibility: I have always believed that each of us has a role to play in shaping a better future for our communities and nation.
  • A desire for personal growth: Volunteering offers me a unique opportunity to challenge myself, step outside my comfort zone, and develop leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • The need to inspire others: I want to be part of a movement that demonstrates the power of youth to lead positive change, showing others that service is a noble and impactful path.
  • Creating meaningful connections: Working with communities has allowed me to forge deep connections with people whose resilience and wisdom inspire me every day.

Now that I am part of this journey, I am proud to be making a tangible difference. So far, I have successfully integrated into my community and actively engaged in various activities, such as tree planting and capacity building. By the end of my service, I aspire to leave behind a legacy of empowerment and sustainable solutions while carrying with me invaluable lessons that will shape my future endeavors.
