The Volunteers

Who they are

CorpsAfrica Volunteers are diverse group of people – of all ages, income levels, types of expertise, etc. All Volunteers are required to possess a college degree or equivalent experience, and most Volunteers join CorpsAfrica with experience in the social sector and designing, implementing and monitoring projects.
Meet the current group of CorpsAfrica Volunteers in Morocco, Senegal, Malawi and Rwanda.

Their qualifications

  • Humility – people who don’t think they have all the answers
  • Creativity – people who are constantly looking for new and better solutions
  • Resourcefulness – people who are able to find imaginative solutions to difficult situations
  • Flexibility – people who can go with the flow, change with the wind, bounce back from adversity
  • Curiosity – people who wonder, people who seek, and people who follow questions wherever they lead

Their service

CorpsAfrica Volunteers serve in a community chosen for its perceived need, theexistence of local partners, essential infrastructure, location, and other criteria. After being selected through a rigorous screening process and attending a one-month intensive training program, Volunteers move to their sites, where they live with host families, learn local dialects, participate in day-to-day activities, and become trusted members of their communities.

They lead change by engaging local people in conversations and facilitating community meetings to identify and address changing and complex local needs in education, health, small business development, urban planning and infrastructure, agriculture, the environment, and more.

CorpsAfrica Volunteers help communities determine their priority needs, design and implement projects to address those needs (which are supported by a special fund of the CorpsAfrica project) and then perform comprehensive impact evaluation analyses.

To achieve this, CorpsAfrica Volunteers receive professional training before and during their service, support from CorpsAfrica staff (both nationally and internationally), a modest living allowance, and a readjustment allowance upon successful completion of the program.
