Biography

Hamdu Abukari is a young development professional with a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Nutrition from the University for Development Studies (UDS), with professional experience in nutrition, community-based research, youth development, and community engagement. He has worked as a Nutritionist at the Northern Regional Hospital, where he supported patients and caregivers through nutrition counseling, child growth monitoring, and the management of nutrition-related conditions. He has also participated in community-based research involving rural communities and engagement with traditional and community leaders.

As a 2023 Millennium Fellowship Alumnus, Hamdu co-facilitated the implementation of Tizaa Bonyeni, a community-based project in a rural community in the Upper West Region aimed at empowering women to understand and claim their rightful place in society. He has also contributed to youth and community development through initiatives and organizations including ActionAid Ghana, Norsaac, Activista Ghana, and Youth Action Movement. His experience covers youth empowerment, sexual and reproductive health and rights education, safeguarding, gender advocacy, digital safety, climate justice, and community mobilization. Hamdu has a strong interest in community and youth development, social inclusion, health, gender equality, and climate action. He is passionate about empowering young people, promoting inclusive development, and working with rural communities to address challenges through locally driven solutions.

Currently, Hamdu serves as the Deputy Safeguarding and GESI Officer for ACTIVISTA Ghana, having previously served as Chairperson of the Safeguarding Committee, where he supported the development of a safeguarding and GESI policy for the movement. This experience strengthened his understanding of protection systems, inclusion, accountability, and respectful engagement. He is also a Youth Policy Champion under the Follow the Money campaign, implemented by YEFL Ghana with funding from Empowerment for Life (E4L), where he engages in youth participation, policy advocacy, and accountability around major youth-focused interventions, including Adwumawura and the National Apprenticeship Program.

Hamdu is an aspiring development practitioner committed to learning, service, advocacy, and working with people and communities to create meaningful and lasting change.
