Biography

Selam Melese is a young Ethiopian environmental health and science professional who is passionate about community development, public health, environmental protection, and youth empowerment. She graduated from Hawassa University with a BSc in Environmental Health and Safety.

During her academic journey, Selam gained practical experience through community-based training, WASH activities, health-center training, and research focused on occupational health and safety among healthcare workers. These experiences strengthened her interest in protecting people’s health while addressing environmental and community challenges.

Selam is currently involved in CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia as a Volunteer, where she works closely with rural communities. Through her field experience in Delbansa, she has participated in community mapping, agricultural activities, traditional enset processing, youth profiling, stakeholder engagement, identification of PWDs and IDPs, and exploration of youth business opportunities. She is also interested in community awareness activities, including water treatment, hygiene, and climate-change-related topics.

She is a hardworking, adaptable, and community-oriented person who enjoys learning new skills, working with people, and contributing to meaningful social change. Her long-term goal is to build a career in organizations, public health, environmental health and safety, and community development, using her knowledge and field experience to create a positive impact in communities.
