Biography

Idlawit Agegnehu Bekele was born in East Hararghe, Karssa Woreda. She graduated with a degree in Management from St. Mary’s University in Addis Ababa and currently serves as a volunteer with CorpsAfrica Ethiopia.

Idlawit joined CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia because it gives her the opportunity to live her dream of serving communities and creating meaningful change. She believes that Volunteering makes a person richer in humanity, wiser with age, and stronger in character. She is passionate about working in rural communities, especially in areas focused on women’s empowerment, supporting older people, and strengthening the well-being of communities.

Before joining CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia, Idlawit gained valuable experience through church-based leadership and volunteering with NGO like Ethiopia Reads. These experiences helped her develop leadership, teamwork, empathy, and a strong commitment to serving others.

Idlawit is a person who loves to smile and make others smile. She believes that a simple smile can create connection, hope, and positivity even during difficult moments. Inspired by the vision and mission of CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia, she hopes her volunteer journey will help her become wiser, stronger, and more compassionate, while contributing to lasting positive change in rural communities.

Outside her volunteer work, Idlawit enjoys music, and “Wake Me Up” by Avicii is one of her favorite songs. The song resonates with her because of its message of growth, self-discovery, and finding one’s purpose.
