Biography

Ruth Alemayehu’s story began in Shinshicho, Kembata, in Central Ethiopia, where she was raised in a loving and supportive family that valued education. She comes from a close-knit community where people supported and looked out for one another. This shaped her strong sense of community and inspired her desire to be part of positive change.

Ruth is a Social Work graduate from Jimma University with interests in community development, youth empowerment, women’s empowerment, child advocacy, and community participation. During her field practice, she supported patients and families at Jimma University Medical Center’s Emergency Ward, participated in rehabilitation and reintegration activities at Jimma City Correctional Center, and supported students during her placement at Jimma Jiren High School. As a Volunteer, she has facilitated life-skills training for orphaned and vulnerable young people and participated in community outreach and advocacy activities.

Ruth is a curious and creative person who enjoys photography, hiking, nature walks, reading, writing, and learning new skills. As a CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia Volunteer, she hopes to learn from the community, contribute her knowledge and skills, build meaningful connections, and be part of positive change.
