Biography

Mihret Semagn Amakelew is a young Ethiopian professional and Computer Science graduate from Wollo University, Kombolcha Institute of Technology. She holds a BSc in Computer Science and has developed a strong interest in technology, community development, and volunteer service. Her academic journey has given her a foundation in software development, problem-solving, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Mihret has gained practical experience through internships in software development at the Ministry of Defense Logistics Main Department and Kanonus Technology. Through these experiences, she developed skills in software development, backend systems, ERP solutions, and working collaboratively with different teams. She has also completed a Website Development Skills Certificate from Elevate Skill, further strengthening her interest and skills in web technologies.

Beyond her academic and professional experience, Mihret has been actively involved in volunteer and community service. During her four years of university, she served in the Social Affairs Team of the Evangelical Students Fellowship. She spent two years at Gonder University, where she also took on a leadership role, and continued serving for two years at Kombolcha Institute of Technology as a team member. Through this involvement, she participated in activities supporting orphaned and vulnerable children, including educational support, community visits, and spending time with them during holidays.

Her experience living and studying in different communities has helped her interact with people from diverse backgrounds and gain a deeper understanding of different social realities. These experiences strengthened her interest in community engagement and taught her the importance of listening, empathy, teamwork, and serving others.

Mihret is also interested in drawing, historical and action movies, meaningful conversations, and learning from different perspectives. She enjoys opportunities that allow her to meet new people, gain new experiences, and continue developing both personally and professionally.

As a CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia Volunteer, Mihret is committed to working alongside community members with humility, respect, and openness. She hopes to use her technical skills, volunteer experience, and willingness to learn to support community-led development, recognize existing community strengths, and contribute to meaningful and sustainable change.
