Angela Khumalo is a Geographer and Geospatial Analyst with a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Development Studies from the University of Johannesburg, and an MSc degree in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing from the University of the Witwatersrand. She is an early-career researcher whose work explores the intersection of environmental change, sustainable development, socio-economic vulnerability, and evidence-based policymaking.
She applies earth observation and spatial analysis to generate data-driven evidence that supports climate adaptation, environmental planning, and equitable policy development, while her broader interests include climate resilience, climate finance and adaptation, environmental governance, and the role of geospatial evidence in strengthening policy and decision-making across Africa.
Angela is currently interested in exploring how communities understand and respond to the challenges affecting their livelihoods and environments, and how local knowledge, participation, and evidence can contribute to more sustainable and inclusive development. Her academic and professional experiences have strengthened her interest in creating spaces for dialogue, learning, collaboration, and community-led solutions.
Through Corps Africa, Angela hopes to deepen her understanding of community development by learning directly from communities, contributing meaningfully to locally identified priorities, and gaining practical experience in participatory and community-led development. She is passionate about using her skills, curiosity, and commitment to service to support communities while learning from the people and places she works alongside.
