Biography

Jacob Ochieng is a passionate Communication and Media professional from Kenya, driven by a commitment to youth empowerment, community development, and service. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Media from Egerton University, Jacob has built experience in public affairs, stakeholder engagement, media relations, content development, and community-based programmes. Through his work with Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO), he has mentored many young people in entrepreneurship and employability while supporting them to explore opportunities for personal and economic growth.

Jacob also uses football as a tool for youth empowerment and community development. He founded a community football team to keep young people engaged in positive activities, promote teamwork and discipline, and provide an alternative to drug use and involvement in crime. Beyond football, the team undertakes small income-generating initiatives to support its members and create opportunities within the community. For young players still in high school, the team collaborates with schools to support access to education through scholarships, enabling them pursue both their studies and football.

As a CorpsAfrica Volunteer, Jacob is committed to the Community-Led Development (CLD) approach, believing in the importance of listening to communities, valuing local knowledge, and working alongside people to develop practical solutions to local challenges. His work is guided by a passion for creating opportunities for young people and contributing to sustainable, community-owned change.
