Discover CorpsAfrica’s
Green Initiatives

CorpsAfrica Volunteers are leading innovative, grassroots climate solutions across Africa. See how communities are building a greener, more resilient future, one project at a time.

What is the CorpsAfrica Green Initiative?

CorpsAfrica Green is an initiative that positions CorpsAfrica Volunteers as part of the solution to environmental problems in Africa and beyond. This low-cost initiative focuses on environment-related training so that Volunteers recognize and address climate change issues in their host communities from a scientific perspective.

By living in rural communities, Volunteers can serve as a resource to the community for broader local climate action; they will liaise with development partners to test environmental innovations and bring back critical information on how their local communities are affected by and adapting to climate change, and lessons learned.

Key Focus Areas

CorpsAfrica Green tackles climate change through bold, community-led solutions. Each focus area reflects our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and resilience at the grassroots level.

Climate Action

Empowering communities to recognize, adapt to, and mitigate the effects of climate change through education, advocacy, and practical solutions led by Volunteers.

Agroforestry

Promoting the integration of trees and shrubs into farming systems to restore degraded land, enhance biodiversity, and improve soil health and agricultural yields.

Water Conservation

Implementing rainwater harvesting systems, promoting efficient irrigation techniques, and raising awareness on water-saving habits to ensure reliable access to clean water.

Waste Management

Encouraging innovative approaches to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste materials, including plastic repurposing, composting, and eco-brick creation for sustainable construction.

Oyster Production

Supporting sustainable aquaculture practices that provide economic opportunities while preserving marine ecosystems and combating overharvesting.

Kitchen Gardens

Empowering households to grow nutritious food using small-scale, eco-friendly gardens. These boost food security, reduce dependency on external food sources, and promote climate-resilient farming.

Tree Planting

Mobilizing communities to plant trees as a solution to deforestation, land degradation, and carbon capture. Over 88,000 trees have been planted through CorpsAfrica Green projects in 2023–2024 alone.

Renewable Energy

Promoting clean energy alternatives such as improved cookstoves, solar lights, and eco-briquettes to reduce carbon emissions, improve health outcomes, and foster energy independence.
