Biography

Liya Abushet was born in Ethiopia and graduated from Assosa University in June 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree in Soil Resources and Watershed Management. Throughout her academic journey, Liya developed a strong interest in environmental conservation, sustainable land use, and community-driven development. Her studies equipped her with knowledge in soil management, watershed protection, and climate-resilient agricultural practices — skills she is passionate about applying in real-world settings to improve rural livelihoods.
Her commitment to community service began during her university years, where she participated in student-led initiatives, environmental awareness campaigns, and local outreach activities. These experiences gave her early exposure to teamwork, problem-solving, and the value of grassroots engagement.
Liya is deeply inspired by CorpsAfrica’s mission to empower rural communities to identify and solve their own challenges for sustainable development. She believes in the power of inclusive participation and local leadership to create long-lasting change. This is her first formal Volunteering role, and she is eager to immerse herself fully in rural life, learning from the communities she serves while sharing her knowledge and skills.
Her personal values — empathy, resilience, and a strong work ethic — drive her dedication to making a positive impact. Liya’s goal is to combine her technical expertise in natural resource management with her passion for service, helping communities strengthen their environmental sustainability, adapt to climate challenges, and improve their quality of life. She envisions a future where empowered rural communities thrive through self-reliance, innovation, and shared responsibility.
