Biography

Melat Tekabu was born in the beautiful city of Hawassa and grew up in a small, loving family. She completed her primary and secondary education in her hometown before attending Adigrat University, where she graduated with a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Helping others has always been an important part of her life. While at university, she volunteered with an organization called People to People, an experience that strengthened her commitment to serving others. She also enjoys learning new skills and took an online course in Digital Marketing, followed by a short course in Graphic Design in Hawassa. She later worked independently as an IT instructor, sharing her knowledge of technology with others in her community.

This combination of volunteer experience, technical skills, and commitment to her community naturally led her to CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia. She strongly believes that real and lasting change cannot be forced from the outside. Instead, communities should have the opportunity to recognize their own strengths and take the lead in addressing their challenges.

As a CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia Volunteer, Melat hopes to use her technical knowledge, communication and teamwork skills, and genuine love for service to grow as a leader while supporting communities to discover their internal strengths and develop solutions to their own challenges.
