Biography

Joana Duodu Owusu is an experienced and adaptable professional with a strong background in community-led development, project management, and waste management. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Energy and Natural Resources.

Before joining CorpsAfrica/Ghana, Joana gained valuable experience in waste management and plastic recycling through her volunteer service with Recycle Up Ghana. She then served in the first Cohort of CorpsAfrica/Ghana, where she worked with communities in the Central Region and implemented several impactful projects. These included training women and girls in soap making, facilitating career guidance sessions for Junior High School pupils, and developing a “Gari Mix” product from cassava in collaboration with community members. Her primary project involved renovating an old structure into a teacher’s bungalow and nursery school, contributing to improved educational and community infrastructure.

Following her service with CorpsAfrica/Ghana, Joana supported the organization as a Partnership and Philanthropy Intern. She later served as an Exchange Volunteer with the Third Cohort of CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia, where she brought her expertise in project management, community mobilization, and grassroots development to a new cultural and professional environment. Her experience in Ethiopia further strengthened her adaptability, cross-cultural collaboration, leadership, and community engagement skills.

After completing her service in Ethiopia, Joana now serves as a Volunteer Liaison Associate for the Central Region, where she supports Volunteers and contributes to strengthening Volunteer engagement and community-led initiatives in the region.

Known for her results-oriented and self-motivated approach, Joana is an apostle of change who is creative, innovative, and passionate about making a positive impact. She possesses strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with particular experience in mobilizing and managing youth organizations. She thrives in team environments, readily adapts to new roles and challenges, and is inspired by working with and creating opportunities for children and communities.
