Biography

Paul Hakuzimana is a Crop Scientist, community development practitioner, and youth empowerment advocate with a bachelor’s degree in Crop Sciences, specializing in Crop Production, from the University of Rwanda. His professional interests lie at the intersection of agriculture, youth development, community-led development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.

Paul served as a CorpsAfrica Rwanda Volunteer, where he worked closely with communities to support locally driven development initiatives. During his service, he contributed to agricultural projects including passion fruit and Irish potato production, established kitchen gardens, supported community savings groups, and promoted income-generating activities among community members. His experience strengthened his commitment to empowering communities to identify their own priorities and develop sustainable solutions using locally available resources.

Beyond community volunteering, Paul has gained experience in research, career development, facilitation, and youth engagement. He has worked with the University of Rwanda’s Career Guidance and Employability Services and participated in initiatives focused on leadership, entrepreneurship, employability, innovation, and professional development. He also undertook a research internship with the World Agriculture Forum, further developing his interests in agricultural development and knowledge sharing.
In 2026, Paul is working with CorpsAfrica Ethiopia as an Exchange Volunteer, where he will have the opportunity to engage with CorpsAfrica Ethiopia staff, learn from the Ethiopian volunteer experience, and explore the country’s culture, history, and community development approaches. The experience will equip him with valuable cross-cultural learning and strengthen his understanding of how young people can contribute to community-led development across Africa.

Paul is passionate about using agriculture, innovation, entrepreneurship, and youth leadership as tools for creating sustainable opportunities and strengthening communities. Through his experiences across Rwanda and Ethiopia, he continues to promote collaboration, cultural exchange, and community-driven solutions for Africa’s development.
