Biography
Theoneste Irankunda is a dedicated CorpsAfrica Volunteer with a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and Conservation from the University of Rwanda. Throughout his academic journey, he demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience, building a solid foundation in both theory and practical application of conservation science.
In addition to his academic background, Theoneste has gained valuable hands-on experience through internships and community engagement initiatives. He worked with ARCOS Network under the Living Lakes Biodiversity and Climate Project, where he contributed to biodiversity assessments, habitat restoration, and environmental education aimed at strengthening climate resilience among local communities. His internship at the Museum of Environment further enhanced his skills in environmental education, where he supported climate change lessons, workshops, and conservation programs for students and the public.
As a CorpsAfrica Volunteer in Rwanda, Theoneste has been actively involved in community-led development projects focusing on afforestation, sustainable agriculture, sanitation improvement, and economic empowerment for youth and women. He has played a key role in mobilizing communities, training local leaders, and supporting income-generating initiatives designed to promote long-term sustainability.
Beyond his professional work, Theoneste has a strong passion for environmental conservation and community service. As a CorpsAfrica Exchange Volunteer in The Gambia, he is motivated to apply his knowledge, leadership, and commitment to support community development efforts and create lasting positive impact while learning from new cultural and environmental contexts.
