Biography
Shamim Juma is a dedicated and passionate historian who graduated from Pwani University with a Bachelor’s Degree in History with Philosophy. She is deeply rooted in creating the space and inviting the connections between the people and their community history, culture and heritage not forgetting inclusivity and placing the people at the centre of their own developments.
As a data collector and analyst with UNDP, she was able to assist in mapping water sources and social amenities in Tana River County where she was part of a stakeholder group that was required to collect water sources, its qualities, the WASH facilities and interventions, and this of course was done by the community itself.
Also, as a research assistant with a game developing company, Jiwe Studio, she helped reconstruct the story of slave trade along the beautiful Kenyan coast, reliving all the stories given by the elders through archival records, pieces of pottery and the stories. She also has other skills like Tool Prototyping, questionnaire development, blog writing, recruitment and training of community data stewards.
Currently, she is volunteering with CorpsAfrica where she aspires to use the CLD, HCD and ABCD models to make the people of each community have a say in their own assets and developments. She believes that people are mostly passionate and respectful of their assets, cultures and mostly heritage hence would go extra miles to leverage on them.
