Biography

Saumu Syomiti Kavuu is a graduate who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Journalism from Maasai Mara University, Kenya. As a journalist, she is enthusiastic about engaging diverse audiences in telling their stories and allow their voices to be heard. In addition to her education, Saumu worked as a mentee with the International Association of Women in Radio and Television [IAWRT] and through this opportunity, she developed a keen interest in advocating for the rights of the girl child in the media industry.

Apart from her excellent communication skills, Saumu is also equipped with hands on experience like content production, and digital marketing. She is also a great problem solver, leader, team player and loves learning new things especially language and culture.

Growing up, Saumu has always been passionate about giving back to the community and this spirit has enabled her to be involved in activities involving the same. For example, she worked with CorpsAfrica/Kenya as a Volunteer serving in Karocho Location, Tharaka-Nithi County in Kenya. During her time in the community, she was involved in various activities to help community members especially women improve their livelihoods. She also facilitated a major project of renovation of a school borehole which benefitted over 200 students and improved their hygiene and sanitation.

As an Exchange Volunteer in CorpsAfrica/Rwanda, she is ready to explore and work with more community members especially the youths and empower them to be better. In general, Saumu believes in empowering the community in order for them to be independent.

Furthermore, she is a dedicated youth with a charming personality and loves bringing a positive impact among people in her community in various ways. As a volunteer she believes her work with the community will be of a great impact to both herself and the community she serves.
