Biography
Shamsiyatu Murtala holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Technology (Biotechnology major) from the University for Development Studies. Her undergraduate research focused on food fraud as a food safety concern, which deepened her passion for protecting consumers and promoting integrity in food systems. She is an advocate for food safety and sustainable agriculture, with a strong interest in bridging scientific knowledge and community awareness.
Beyond her academic work, Shamsiyatu is dedicated to service and mentorship. She has led adolescent girls’ clubs, mentored young women interested in STEM, and volunteered with organizations that promote science communication and youth empowerment. As a Lead for Ghana Fellow, she taught basic science in a rural community, using innovative approaches to make learning engaging and accessible while also supporting reproductive health and community initiatives.
Shamsiyatu aspires to become a research scientist and lecturer who mentors young people—particularly those growing up without guidance—to help them realize their potential. Through CorpsAfrica, she hopes to expand her grassroots impact by co-creating sustainable solutions with communities, amplifying local voices, and fostering resilience.
