Biography
Temwa Phiri is a dedicated and hardworking young woman who graduated from the University of Malawi in 2024 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Gender Studies. She also holds a Certificate in Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
Temwa has always been passionate about working with diverse groups of people and contributing to positive change in rural communities. She previously worked with the Coalition for the Empowerment of Women and Girls (CEWAG), where she advocated against gender-based violence and promoted women’s economic empowerment in rural communities. She also served as an intern at M’mbewa District Council, where she was involved in addressing social issues, including women’s empowerment, gender equality, and the prevention of gender-based violence.
Through these experiences, Temwa developed a strong passion for creating meaningful change in the lives of young people, women, and broader communities. In 2025, she joined CorpsAfrica/Malawi, where she served in Kazembe Community in Zomba District. During her service, she worked alongside community members to identify their own needs and develop solutions that could contribute to their economic empowerment and sustainable development. She facilitated various income-generating activities for the youth and women, including solar-powered irrigation farming, baking businesses, and poultry farming.
With her continued passion for serving communities, Temwa is currently serving as a CorpsAfrica Exchange Volunteer in Ghana. She is serving in Benyadze Community in the Central Region, where she continues to work alongside community members to facilitate community-led development. Her goal is to continue serving African communities and helping them take ownership of their own development.
