Biography
Derrick Sabatia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, where he honed his leadership and mentorship skills as Chairperson of the Peer Counsellors Club and Chair of the Student Commission for the 2025 University Elections. He is deeply passionate about youth empowerment and actively advocates for young people to seize opportunities, take charge of their lives and build a secure future.
Over his four years in university, Derrick’s experience has spanned both Governmental and Non-Governmental sectors. He has worked with the USAID OVC Project (CABDA), Brighter Monday Kenya and the Ministry of Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture in Kakamega County. He also contributed to NACADA’s National survey on drug and substance use, supported the Shamiri Institute program under Tinada Youth Action Africa and actively participated in outreach initiatives such as World Clean-Up Days, university peace campaigns and mental health awareness programs. In addition, he has been involved in community visits to children’s homes, prisons and with street children.
He is a dedicated and self-driven community champion, currently serving as a CorpsAfrica/Kenya Volunteer where he facilitates Community-Led Development (CLD) initiatives while gaining valuable experience in service and learning.
Grounded in humility and guided by faith, he believes in a world full of possibilities and remains committed to empowering communities, fostering inclusion, and advancing sustainable social change.
