Biography

Cici Winnifred Sebego was born in Germiston and raised in a small town called Cornelia in the Free State, where her passion for working with people was evoked. Growing up in a community with limited development and many young people who had lost hope inspired her commitment to creating positive social change. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Development Studies and an Honours degree in Sociology from the University of Johannesburg, where she is currently pursuing her Master’s degree. Her academic journey has strengthened her understanding of social structures, social change, and community engagement.

Before joining CorpsAfrica, Cici gained extensive volunteer experience through organizations such as Kids Haven, Ikamva Youth, and the UJ Community Engagement Committee, where she mentored youth, supported educational initiatives, and participated in outreach projects. She also served as a tutor in the Department of Development Studies and Anthropology, enhancing her leadership and communication skills.

She has published a book review on I Write the Yawning Void by Sindiwe Magona, reflecting her interest in decolonial and feminist scholarship. Now serving as a CorpsAfrica/South Africa Volunteer, Cici is dedicated to working with communities to promote sustainable development and improve livelihoods through participatory, people-centered approaches.
