Biography
Tesfamaryam Tafere was born in Raya, Ethiopia. She graduated from Wollo University, Department of Sociology, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from November 1, 2017, to January 7, 2021 G.C. She has a strong passion for volunteer service and for immersing herself in the way of life of the communities she serves.
Tesfamaryam has six months of volunteering experience with UNHCR in Raya during the northern conflict. In addition, she volunteered for one year as a teacher for kindergarten students at Kalehiwot Church in Dessie City. She also took part in community service initiatives, particularly by providing training on psychosocial support for conflict-affected communities in the Southern Wollo Zone. Through these experiences, Tesfamaryam recognized the significance of empathy. Her empathetic relationships with community members helped her build strong bonds, which she believes are essential for ongoing support and sustainable development efforts. This understanding deepened her belief in the vital role empathy plays in effective volunteerism.
She views serving as a CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia Volunteer as a great opportunity to transform her attitude, broaden her understanding, and further develop her behavior while contributing meaningfully to the community.
