Biography

Dr. Sador Dereje is a deeply compassionate medical doctor whose career is defined by a pride in patient care and an evolving commitment to community-driven healthcare systems.

Upon graduating from medical school, Dr. Sador took on her first assignment in Carmo, Somalia. In this high-stakes environment, she witnessed firsthand the profound vulnerabilities of broken health facilities and saw how deeply a fractured medical system can devastate a community and a nation.

Driven to continue serving where help was needed most, she returned to Ethiopia and accepted a unique calling to establish a fully functional medical center at one of the country’s historic monasteries. By making the center operational and running to care for the monastery’s fathers, her clinical perspective underwent a profound transformation. She realized that the true foundation of an effective healthcare system is not built from the top down, but rather from within the heartbeat of the community itself. To ground this in advanced knowledge, Dr. Sador pursued and completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Nutrition. She then blended her clinical and public health expertise at Jigjiga General Hospital, treating diverse pathologies while looking at patient health through a more holistic, preventative lens.

Seeking to strip away institutional barriers and immerse herself fully in the lives of those she serves, Dr. Sador joined CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia. As a Volunteer, she is eager to live side-by-side with rural communities, collaborating directly with residents to build sustainable, grassroots health and nutrition solutions from the ground up.
