Biography

Uwera Pelagie holds a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Rwanda, Busogo Campus. Before joining CorpsAfrica, she gained valuable professional experience through an internship at BK General Insurance and as a Site Manager with One Acre Fund during their tree distribution campaign. These roles strengthened her expertise in agriculture, project management, and community engagement.

In 2024, Pelagie joined CorpsAfrica/Rwanda as a Volunteer and served for one year in Mukaka village, Kageshi cell, Kageyo sector of Ngororero District in Rwanda’s Western Province. Following her impactful first year of service, she was allowed to extend her work into 2025–2026, where she continues to serve the community of Mukaka with passion and commitment.

Her service focuses on youth empowerment, environmental protection, hygiene improvement, and sustainable agriculture. She founded the Twitezimbere Mukaka Youth Group, uniting 80 members (44 females and 36 males) to promote saving, financial discipline, and teamwork. Pelagie has supported households by building kitchen gardens, plate racks, and clotheslines, which improved both nutrition and hygiene. She has also trained youth in small business skills, inspiring them to start income-generating activities.

In addition, Pelagie established a tree nursery to support reforestation, raise awareness on climate change, and create income opportunities. She has trained community members on how to use e-services to access government programs such as health insurance, Ejo Heza, and ID applications. To further support vulnerable families, she distributed chickens to enhance food security and income through egg production. She also spearheaded a passion fruit farming project with 80 youth, creating jobs, providing agricultural knowledge, and reducing unemployment.

Pelagie is deeply passionate about community-led development and takes pride in contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, food security, and environmental sustainability. She is grateful to CorpsAfrica for providing the platform to serve, grow, and learn while helping her community build resilience and self-reliance.
