Laetitia Yisabirumva
Volunteer
Biography

Laetitia Yisabirumva was inspired by the challenges and opportunities in her rural community to study Food Science and Technology at the University of Rwanda, to strengthen agricultural value chains, reduce post-harvest losses, and create more diverse food products from single raw materials.

In addition to academics, Laetitia is deeply committed to sports and community service. She values sports as an essential part of her life and actively participated in football throughout her academic years. She even established a local sports team in Mururu Sector, Kagarama Cell, which trains every Sunday. Proud of her Rwandan identity, she regularly joins Umuganda (community work) and previously served as a youth volunteer in Musanze District.

Her leadership journey began early: in 2021, she was recognised in the Ndumunyarwanda Competition, and between 2023–2024, she served in the Guild Council at UR-CAVM as the Minister of International Relations, representing students and fostering collaboration.

In 2025, Laetitia was selected as a CorpsAfrica Volunteer, a milestone that made her extremely proud as it aligned with her lifelong dream of serving communities. She completed six weeks of pre-service training and was deployed to Ngororero District, Kageyo Sector, Mukore Cell, Rusenyi Village. Through CorpsAfrica’s approaches—Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), Human-Centred Design (HCD), and Community-Led Development (CLD)—she is committed to empowering people and believes that sustainable development is only possible when communities are placed at the center of change.

Laetitia is also passionate about climate change awareness, food value addition, and sustainable agriculture. She aspires to pursue a master’s degree in Post-Harvest Handling to contribute to Rwanda’s agricultural transformation. With her strong sense of leadership, community spirit, and dedication, she envisions herself as a changemaker bridging science, community action, and sustainable development.
