Project Demo Day in Senegal
After a rigorous selection process, five CorpsAfrica/Senegal Volunteers pitched projects to donors and invited guests. Project Demo Day is a fundraising initiative that seeks to raise funds for community-led projects identified by host communities.
Below are the selected projects; all projects are available for funding support.

Mini-borehole Project

Balandine, Bignona
Total Cost: $30,111.45 Community Contribution: $3,347.27 The Balandine community faces a few issues with its current water supply: there are some sanitation risks, they rely on one well to serve their entire community, and women have to travel long distances to fetch water. The borehole project will provide a reliable drinking water source and will have 229 direct beneficiaries. Once completed it will consist of a mini-borehole that is 35 meter deep and connected to 6 standpipes in the village, one in each neighborhood. Classroom Construction

Total Cost: ~$7,268.87 Community Contribution: ~$1,817.22 The population of Kobongoye 2 is growing year after year yet they only have two classrooms serving the community. Last year, a number of students did not enroll because of limited space. The construction of a classroom block will allow children to attend school and to study in a more conducive learning environment; the project will directly benefit 30 children. Fish Feeding and Farming Project

Total Cost: $5,439.33 Community Contribution: $1,359.83 The Thionck Essly community specializes in fish farming. The objective of the project is to increase the production capacity to meet the growing demand for fish and fish feed. It involves the acquisition of a new fish feed manufacturing machine, a dryer and a millet mill for a production of 2000 kg per day. In addition to the acquisition of equipment, there is also the reinforcement and training of personnel for a better continuous productivity and a good management. School Feeding Program

Total Cost ~$9,692.13 Community Contribution: ~$2,502.93 The implementation of a school feeding program and the operation of an integrated community school granary will contribute to the improvement of students' academic performance in Ndombo Sandjiry. The school granary will contribute to three schools' food supply and also serve as an income generating activity. The school will benefit from the sale of granary goods. Once completed, this project will allow children to eat at school and attend classes without having to worry about their next meal. Women's Community House

Total Cost: $9,740.25 Community Contribution: $2,435.06 To boost women's economic independence and contribution; the community proposed constructing a building for them. The building will enable the women to meet, exchange ideas and carry out economic activities. Once completed, the community house will include a production room, a meeting room, a store and a storage room. The building will be fenced to have a closed space with fruit trees in the courtyard, a micro garden and an area that can be used process organic fertilizer.
