Beyond the Classroom

I recently started interacting with children in my community in their schools. This has been one of the most exciting experiences of my service. I got to learn and share personal and impactful stories with them, and beyond the classroom lie the dreams that most of these children yearn to achieve.

During one of my sessions on career development, I got  to share one of my favourite quotes with them: “No matter where you come from, your dreams are valid .” It was inspiring to see their eyes light up as they began to imagine possibilities beyond their immediate surroundings.

During the session, the students eagerly approached me with questions. Some wanted to know more about my journey, others were curious about careers they had never considered, and a few just wanted advice on how to pursue their passions. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and I found myself learning from them as much as they were learning from me. Their hope, curiosity, and courage to dream boldly left a lasting impression.

What I have come to realize is that career development is not just about sharing information; it’s about opening doors, sparking possibilities, and nurturing hope. Beyond the classroom, it’s the moments of genuine connection, the conversations, and the shared excitement for what the future can hold that truly make a difference.

Being part of this journey has reminded me that while we may teach, we also listen, grow, and are inspired by the young minds we meet. Sometimes, the simplest words reminding a child that their dreams are valid can plant seeds that will flourish far beyond the school walls.

Support Our Work

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: engaging youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty. We recruit and train motivated volunteers to live and work in rural, under-resourced areas in their own countries. They collaborate with the community to design and implement small-scale projects that address their top priorities and, by doing so, gain the skills and experience that lay the foundation for personal and professional success.

CorpsAfrica trusts youth and communities to help each other.
