I came to Ewamakhumbi as a CorpsAfrica/Kenya volunteer, not knowing just how much the village will change me. Coming from Kajiado County, a semi-arid place where the land is dry and dusty. I am shocked by the endless green that greets me in Kakamega. Ewamakhumbi feels like a different world, full of life and colour.

The village is blessed with several small streams and two main rivers-Kwavah and Seseve. These rivers flow all year round, never drying up. They snake through the land, feeding the lush vegetation and adding a peaceful rhythm to daily life. The sound of flowing water mixes with birdsong and rustling leaves, creating a natural symphony that soothes the soul.

For me, the rivers have become more than just part of the landscape, they are my escape. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or homesick, I walk to the riverbank, sit under the trees, and just listen. The water carries away my thoughts, leaving me calm and refreshed. It feels like the river understands me.

Ewamakhumbi gives me more than just a place i serve, it gives me peace. In a world that often feels too fast and too loud, the rivers of this village remind me to slow down, breathe deeply, and find beauty in the simple things.
