Meet my  23-year-old young mother of two whose determination has stayed with me.

She completed secondary school with a good grade that could have qualified her for a strong TVET course. However, poverty stood in the way. The financial burden left at school meant she could not collect her certificate and without that document the next step toward further education became difficult. Her home situation is also challenging. She lives with her mother and children in a small thatched one-room house that they all share. It is not the safest environment and the daily realities of survival can easily make dreams feel distant. Yet even in those circumstances, she has not stopped believing that life can be different.

When we first met, I could see that she still carries many dreams for herself and for her children. What she lacked was not ambition but a clear place to begin. We agreed that waiting for the perfect opportunity might take too long. Starting with something close and practical could open a new path. That is how our computer learning journey began. Using my work laptop, we started with basic computer lessons. It may seem like a small step but it is an important one. Learning how to use a computer is building her confidence, expanding her skills and helping her see that she is capable of more than her current circumstances may suggest.

Today, we are in week two of this journey. Each lesson is more than learning how to operate a computer, it is about unlocking possibilities. It is about helping a young mother see that her future is still open, that her dreams still matter and that progress can begin with one small decision.

Her story reminds me that empowerment does not always begin with big programs or major resources. Sometimes it begins with listening, sharing what we have and walking with someone as they take the first step.

This is only the beginning, she is about to unlock infinite potential for her family .
