The Getya Village community in Gimbo Woreda successfully completed the construction of a satellite kindergarten to address the pressing challenge of limited early childhood education access. Previously, the nearest kindergarten was located over 3 km away, creating safety risks for young children and limiting enrollment.
The project, identified and prioritized by the community, involved building a safe and accessible local learning space that now serves over 100 children under the age of six. Completed in just three months at a total cost of 449,400 ETB—with 32% contributed by the community through labor and materials, and 68% supported by CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia—the initiative ensures that children can begin their education closer to home. Beyond improving access to early education, the project strengthens community ownership, engagement, and collective responsibility for future generations.

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: engaging youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty. We recruit and train motivated volunteers to live and work in rural, under-resourced areas in their own countries.
