Project Overview

The Pagazaa Kindergarten Block Renovation Project aimed to address critical safety and environmental concerns by transforming the community’s only kindergarten building, which was in dire condition. The structure suffered from cracked walls, leaking roofs, broken windows, and poor ventilation conditions that posed health and safety risks, discouraged regular school attendance, and hindered early childhood development.

To resolve these issues, the community united in a renovation effort that included repairing walls, replacing the roof, installing new windows and doors, and enhancing ventilation systems. Local artisans, community members, and parents played an instrumental role, contributing materials, labor, and funds to ensure the project’s sustainability.

As a result, the newly renovated facility provides a safe, clean, and engaging environment for 79 children, supporting their learning and growth. Teachers now have a more conducive space to teach, enhancing their motivation and effectiveness. This community-led project not only improved the physical infrastructure but also built a sense of ownership and trust among locals, with benefits extending to future students and local artisans.

The success of this renovation has revitalized the kindergarten and encourages better school attendance, while also improving overall community wellbeing. The project is a powerful example of grassroots collaboration making a lasting impact.

Support Our Work

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: engaging youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty. We recruit and train motivated volunteers to live and work in rural, under-resourced areas in their own countries. They collaborate with the community to design and implement small-scale projects that address their top priorities and, by doing so, gain the skills and experience that lay the foundation for personal and professional success.

CorpsAfrica trusts youth and communities to help each other.
