When I arrived in my village, I met an eleven-year-old boy named Nizeyimana Thierry whose situation deeply concerned the community. Thierry had been out of school for seven years. During that time, many attempts were made to help him return to class, but nothing worked. Even his parents had tried their best and eventually lost hope, as Thierry completely refused to go back to school.
Understanding the importance of education, I decided to talk to Thierry and his family. Through patient discussions, encouragement, and reassurance, we slowly helped him regain confidence and interest in learning. Step by step, he agreed to return to school.
Today, Thierry is enrolled in Primary One(P1), and his transformation is truly remarkable. He attends school willingly and happily, and he never misses a class. He has shown strong discipline, respect, and leadership qualities, which led to him being chosen as a class monitor.
Academically, Thierry has also surprised everyone. In his first term, he ranked third in his class, proving that with support and determination, a child can succeed regardless of past challenges.
This journey brought tears of joy to many people in the village, especially Thierry’s parents. For years, they had struggled to help their child return to school without success. Seeing him now wake up excited for school, lead his classmates, and perform well in class was something they never imagined.
Those tears were not tears of sadness, but of relief, pride, and renewed hope. They reminded us that change is possible when a child is given understanding, care, and encouragement.
Every child deserves a second chance at education. No child is ever too late to learn, and no situation is impossible to change. With patience, community support, and belief in a child’s potential, education can transform lives.
Thierry’s story teaches us that when we refuse to give up on a child, the future opens its doors.
