The community selected catfish farming using a tarpaulin pond system as a cost-effective and accessible solution. The project will use a solar-powered Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) to recycle water, maintain a healthy fish environment, and reduce water use, supported by an aeration system to boost growth and reduce mortality.
The project will create employment for at least 40 community members, with 10 directly involved in fish production and others in processing and marketing. Fish waste will also support vegetable gardening, provide additional income and improve access to protein and vegetables. Overall, the project will enhance livelihoods and reduce seasonal unemployment.
