Sand Dam Construction

Project Description: Kamwathu faces severe water scarcity, affecting over 1,000 residents due to unreliable water sources, with one of the earth’s dams already dry. Families, especially women and children, travel up to 10 km daily for water, increasing their risk of waterborne diseases. To address this, the community plans to construct a sand dam on River Kathigu, ensuring reliable water access, reducing disease rates, and improving livelihoods.

Borehole Water Pumping to Tank & Kiosk Distribution

Project Description: The community faces severe water shortages, forcing women and children to walk long distances daily, affecting education, productivity, and health. The project aims to install a solar-powered water system with a 10,000-liter tank and water kiosk to improve access, hygiene, and support livelihoods.

Primary School Classroom Renovation

Volunteer: Nicholas Ekodi

Project Description: Nyagaari Primary School, serving over 500 households in two locations, struggles with poor learning conditions. Open classrooms expose students to cold, causing illnesses and reducing learning time by three hours daily. Theft of books is also common. To improve attendance and performance, the community plans to renovate two classrooms for grades 6 and 8

Maternal & Child Health Unit Construction

Volunteer: Nelly Iminza

Project Description: In Kamayagi village, expectant mothers travel over 20 km and spend KES 1,500 for childbirth, with 3 in 10 facing complications due to delayed care. This project will construct a 10-bed maternal wing at the local dispensary, reducing travel to 5 km and improving maternal and child health outcomes by lowering complication rates by 20%.

Community Borehole Water Piping

Volunteer: Michael Ogutu

Project Description: Akuisi Comprehensive School, with 650 students and staff, faces critical water shortages affecting hygiene, nutrition, and learning. This project will connect the school to a community borehole through pipeline installation and storage, supported by a feasibility study and water management training. It will enhance health, hygiene, and education for the school and over 200 community members.

Sanitation Block Construction

Volunteer: Rose Kahiga

Project Description: Kiremu Comprehensive School, with 295 students, faces health risks and poor hygiene due to dilapidated pit latrines, especially affecting girls’ attendance. The project will construct a modern sanitation block with four toilets, handwashing stations, drainage, and hygiene education. This will enhance health, dignity, and academic performance.

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: creating opportunities for youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty and build resilience.
