Senegal Pitch Day projects 2025

Modernization of Sakhao-Serere Mill

Project Description: Due to a lack of electricity, high maintenance costs, and a non-functioning mill, women in Sakao Serere must travel 8.5 kilometers to access the nearest operational millet mill. This not only increases their workload but also limits their ability to process millet efficiently, impacting household food security and income generation. To address these challenges, the community has proposed modernizing the local mill by installing an electric power supply and equipping the existing machinery with an electric motor. This upgrade will significantly reduce labor and processing time, enhance productivity, and create new economic opportunities, particularly for women who rely heavily on millet processing for their livelihoods.

Fundraising Target: 154,700 CFA; US $268

Community Garden

Volunteer: Victoria Wintonya

Project Description: The community garden initiative addresses critical challenges including food insecurity, seasonal unemployment, and poor nutrition by establishing a secure, community-managed vegetable and fruit garden. By providing a reliable source of fresh produce, the project will improve dietary diversity and health outcomes. It will also create seasonal and year-round employment opportunities, particularly for women and youth, while fostering community ownership and resilience. Through shared management and training in sustainable agricultural practices, the initiative aims to build long-term food security and strengthen the local economy.

Fundraising Target: 873,000 CFA; US $1,513

Sustainable Fish Farming

Project Description: Overfishing, illegal fishing of small species, and climate change have reduced fish stocks, threatening local food security. This project promotes sustainable development by protecting the environment, boosting food self-sufficiency, and creating jobs for the community.

Fundraising Target: 3,026,814 CFA; US $5,245

Poultry Farming

Volunteer: Memory Sibande

Fundraising Target: 172,125 CFA; US $298

Women’s Farm Fencing and Irrigation System

Volunteer: Gilbert Mbonimpa

Project Description: Through a human-centered design process and community mapping, the Lougué Sabbé community identified farming as a key opportunity to empower women and create jobs. This project will support women by securing farmland with fencing and providing an irrigation system to ensure year-round cultivation and sustainable livelihoods.

Fundraising Target:  517,500 CFA; $897

Community Garden Water Access Expansion

Volunteer: Fanta Fadiga

Project Description: This project will install three new water basins in the Galoya Foulbé women’s community garden to improve irrigation efficiency. Currently, the lack of nearby water sources makes farming time-consuming and physically demanding. By reducing the time and effort needed for water collection, the project will boost agricultural productivity, support women’s economic empowerment, and directly benefit 110 community members through increased food production and improved livelihoods.

Fundraising Target: 153,900 CFA; $267

Electric Millet Mill and Husker

Volunteer: Maïmouna Dieng

Project Description: To address limited income-generating opportunities for women, this project will provide the Yéro Yabé community with an electric millet mill and husker. The equipment will significantly reduce the time and labor required for millet processing, allowing women to increase production, generate income, and improve household food security. By modernizing traditional practices, the project aims to boost economic empowerment and create sustainable livelihoods for women and their families.

Fundraising Target:  517,600 CFA; US $897

Fish Farming

Project Description: A lack of financial resources in the Saldé Community has created a cycle of dependency, leaving women, the elderly, people with disabilities, youth, and large families especially vulnerable. After community consultations, residents chose to launch an aquaculture project to create jobs, boost household incomes, and strengthen food security.

Fundraising Target: 1,200,000 CFA; $2,079

Support Our Work

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: creating opportunities for youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty and build resilience. We recruit motivated volunteers to live and work in remote, low-income areas in their own countries. They collaborate with the community to design and implement small-scale projects that address their top priorities and by doing so gain the skills and experience that lay the foundation for personal and professional success.

CorpsAfrica trusts youth and rural communities to help each other.
