CorpsAfrica Blue

We recognize water is a critical asset in all sectors, from public health and environmental conservation to food security and social cohesion. CorpsAfrica Blue is a new initiative that aims to position CorpsAfrica Volunteers as part of the solution to water-related problems in Africa and beyond. The low-cost initiative focuses on water projects and training for Volunteers to recognize and address water issues such as water scarcity, waterborne diseases, sewage, and water contamination at their CorpsAfrica site from a scientific perspective. By living in rural communities, Volunteers can serve as a resource to the broader community, liaise with development partners to test water-based innovations (such as sustainable irrigation or mangrove restoration), sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and provide critical feedback on how their local communities are affected by and coping with water-related issues, and lessons learned.

CorpsAfrica Blue Projects

Ensuring clean, accessible water for the future requires innovation in all areas today. Water has been the focus of 35% of CorpsAfrica projects. Volunteers improved irrigation techniques, eliminated sewage, increased access to clean water, stimulated entrepreneurship using water, and more.CorpsAfrica Volunteers in Senegal have used outside innovations in their projects such as treadle pumps for crop irrigation, solar panels for energy efficiency, and promoted sustainable permaculture practices, to alleviate water scarcity.

Support Our Work

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: creating opportunities for youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty and build resilience. We recruit motivated volunteers to live and work in remote, low-income areas in their own countries. They collaborate with the community to design and implement small-scale projects that address their top priorities and by doing so gain the skills and experience that lay the foundation for personal and professional success.

CorpsAfrica trusts youth and rural communities to help each other.
