Embracing Community Integrations

Every journey has its challenges, and each challenge tells a story shaped by a different perspective. CorpsAfrica embraces this idea by placing volunteer trainees in underserved rural communities, allowing them to understand the lives, challenges, and strengths of local people.

When the Volunteers arrived, they felt a mix of excitement and nerves as they adapted to a new culture, food, language, and community. However, they quickly moved past their nervousness and began connecting with their host families and communities. They started helping with daily tasks such as harvesting maize and coffee and doing household chores. This hands-on involvement helped them build trust and demonstrate their commitment to the community.

The Volunteers are fully engaged in their new surroundings. They attend meetings with local authorities and leaders to better understand the community’s needs, join in community gatherings, and visit schools to talk with students and teachers. These activities have helped them feel valued and connected in their new environment.

Over time, the Volunteers have become part of the community, building strong friendships and finding a sense of belonging. Today, they are thriving in their roles, making positive contributions to their host families and the community. Their journey is just beginning, full of learning and growth that will have a lasting impact on both themselves and the communities they serve.

Support Our Work

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: engaging youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty. We recruit and train motivated volunteers to live and work in rural, under-resourced areas in their own countries. They collaborate with the community to design and implement small-scale projects that address their top priorities and, by doing so, gain the skills and experience that lay the foundation for personal and professional success.

CorpsAfrica trusts youth and communities to help each other.
