As I sit here reflecting on my journey so far as a CorpsAfrica/Ghana Volunteer, I am reminded of the countless moments that have left an indelible mark on my heart.
One moment, in particular, stands out—the day I witnessed a group of young artists in my community discover the transformative power of creativity and entrepreneurship.
It was a moment that not only filled my heart with joy but also reminded me of the boundless potential that lies within every individual, waiting to be unleashed.
As I prepared for In-Service Training, I knew I had to make the most of the opportunity. What I didn’t expect was the overwhelming success of a small project that would change everything.
I gathered my Creative Arts Group, affectionately known as Junior CorpsAfrica, and challenged them to create something truly special. Anthony, Emmanuel, Linda, and Moses from the drawing group poured their hearts into stunning masterpieces, while Blessing, Msila, Charity, and Vicentia from the beads team crafted exquisite jewelry.
The day of the training arrived, and as we showcased our community’s talents during the gallery walk, I proudly introduced our artwork and jewelry to the staff and fellow Volunteers. The response was overwhelming—every single item sold!
The numbers were impressive: we earned a total of GHS 450. After deducting expenses—GHS 35 for lamination and GHS 100 for beads and thread—we were left with a remarkable profit of GHS 315.
But the real magic happened when I shared the news with my Junior CorpsAfrica team. Their faces lit up with excitement, and when I asked them what they wanted to do with the profit, their response warmed my heart: they wanted to invest in more beads and drawing materials to keep creating and selling.
At that moment, I knew we had launched something special—a beads and drawing business that would empower these young artists to pursue their passions and earn an income.
Junior CorpsAfrica, you’ve got this!
