The Galcha Sake community has successfully established a small-scale horticulture center to address high unemployment rates among its 183 university graduates. With limited access to local employment opportunities, many young people faced economic hardship and uncertainty about their futures.
The project, identified and prioritized by the community, transformed available land and resources into a hub for seedling production, vegetable farming, and organic fertilizer-making. Completed in just four months with a total cost of 358,739 ETB—funded through a 25% community contribution, $2,000 support from CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia, and additional community fundraising—the horticulture center directly benefits 313 households and indirectly supports 265 individuals, while ultimately contributing to the well-being of all 3,886 community members.
This project was facilitated by Blen Yemaneh in partnership with the Galcha Sake community, local authorities, and CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia.
