Al Haouz Earthquake Response Report

On September 8, 2023, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco’s High Atlas region, deeply impacting communities where CorpsAfrica/Maroc had long-standing ties. After careful consultation and preparation, the organization adopted a deliberate, community-centered response focused on sustainable recovery rather than immediate deployment. Over the following two years, 73 CorpsAfrica Volunteers lived and worked in 49 remote villages in Al Haouz province, partnering with communities to address urgent recovery needs while laying foundations for long-term development.

This report captures that journey of resilience, youth leadership, and collaboration. Read on to explore the impact, lessons learned, and path forward from the Al Haouz Earthquake Response.

Support Our Work

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: engaging youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty. We recruit and train motivated volunteers to live and work in rural, under-resourced areas in their own countries. They collaborate with the community to design and implement small-scale projects that address their top priorities and, by doing so, gain the skills and experience that lay the foundation for personal and professional success.

CorpsAfrica trusts youth and communities to help each other.
