On August 12, 2026, CorpsAfrica opened its Washington, DC doors, welcoming a wonderful group of people interested in learning more about our work and the future of African-led development. 

The event brought together a strong showing of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, including members of RPCV Nexus, reflecting the shared spirit of service that connects the Peace Corps and CorpsAfrica. We were also grateful to welcome people who have partnered with, mentored, and supported CorpsAfrica Volunteers, as well as colleagues and friends from across the international development community.

Guests enjoyed ice cream from Jeni’s, while learning more about CorpsAfrica’s model and how young African Volunteers are living and working alongside rural communities across 11 African countries. Through listening, relationship-building, and locally led action, Volunteers work with community members to identify priorities and develop sustainable solutions to challenges they have identified themselves.

There’s a lot happening at CorpsAfrica right now. This year, we’re relaunching our Uganda program with a focus on refugee-hosting communities, and for the first time, refugees in Uganda will also have the opportunity to serve as CorpsAfrica Volunteers. We’re excited about what this new chapter will mean for young leaders and the communities they serve.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, asked questions, shared their experiences, and took the time to learn more about CorpsAfrica. We were especially grateful to welcome so many people who believe, as we do, that lasting development begins with local leadership.

The Ice Cream Social was part of CorpsAfrica’s celebration of International Youth Day and our ongoing 15th anniversary year. We look forward to continuing these conversations and welcoming even more friends into the CorpsAfrica community.
